Piccolo
The piccolo is immensly different than the flute when considerint it's size, shape, and colour, yet it still belongs to the flute family. It's popularity began about 200 years ago, and has since been used in orchestras, wind bands, and flute choirs.
SIZE- The piccolo is only about half the size of the concert flute, at 33 cm long
SHAPE- The piccolo only contains two main parts, known as the head and the body
PITCH- The piccolo has the ability to play an entire octave higher than the concert flute, yet due to the lack of a footjoint only reaches as low as D
SOUND- With it's high range, the piccolo sounds very crisp and penetrating
