Contrabass Flute
Contrabass flute being played
The Contrabass flute is so large that it must be played standing up. It is a very rare type of flute, and is found mostly in flute choirs.
SIZE- The contrabass flute is extremely large, as shown to the left.
SHAPE- The contrabass flute is like a bass flute only much larger and played vertically. It often has a small stand at the bottom, allowing it to rest on the ground without the sound coming out muffled. Instead of the head joint being only curved around, it forms almost a triangle shape with the embouchure hole placed strategically near the players mouth.
PITCH- The Contrabass flute is played in the key of C, like the concert flute. However, it is played two full octaves lower than the concert flute.
