Alto Flute
The alto flute is mostly used as a transposing instrument. When playing this instrument, the sound comes out a fourth lower than the notes written on the page.
SIZE- The alto flute is about 86cm long; longer than both the concert flute and piccolo
SHAPE-The alto flute is very similar to the concert flute, just longer. To make the keys more accessible, the head joint is curved, to prevent the mouthpiece from being too far away.
PITCH- The alto flute is tuned a perfect fourth lower than the concert flute. Therefore, when the written note is a C, the sound created by the alto flute is a G.
SOUND- The alto flute is known for it's quieter sound, as well as being much more mellow than the concert flute.
